How To Manage Your Website?

Once you have created your website, you must keep it going. You can not just create a website and walk away from it entirely. There are certain things that you will want to check from time to time to make sure your website is still working and that you are still getting visitors to your website. There are a few steps you want to do to manage your website.

Google Analytics

One of the first things you want to do is make sure you have a Google Analytics account. You can go to www.google.com and create a new account for your business if you do not already have one. This one account will give you a new email address with gmail, then you can use the same account information and log-in to create a Google Adwords, Google AdSense, Google Analytics, and have access to more webmaster tools through your account.

After you create a Google Analytics account, then you want to create a website profile for each website you have, such as www.yourdomain.com Make sure you create a new profile for each domain name/ website that you have. Then you will get a tracking code that you need to put on each webpage that you create for your website. Google generates the tracking code for you. You will need to copy and paste this code in the HTML code for each webpage at the bottom of the HTML code just before the closing body tag.

When you add this tracking code to each webpage, then you will be able to gather information from each visitor that comes to your website. You will know what web browser and operating systems are used by your visitors. What search terms or keywords the visitors used to find your website. The number of unique visitors and the number of return visitors that have come to your website. And a lot of other useful information that you can use to attract more visitors and keep them coming back.

The information is not provided on individual visitors, but given in numbers and percentages. Armed with this information you can make changes to your webpages that have a high bounce rate, which is when people come to a webpage and then leave from the same webpage. You can see keywords and key phrases that your visitors are searching for and make changes to provide the content that they were looking for. You could add a webpage that targets that keyword or key phrase and gives valuable information about that topic.

Check Your Links

Website management also includes making sure that your website still functions. You may have a broken link, because the webpage that you linked to no longer exists. Your payment processor may make changes to their codes and this could result in bad “Buy Now Buttons”. Your visitors may send you an email about these problems, but most of the time your visitors will not want to take the time out of their busy schedules and you may not hear about a problem until after you missed a few days or more of sales. People will leave your website if they are frustrated by broken links or bad payment options.

Every time you make a change to a webpage and upload a new file to your web host server, you will want to check all links on the uploaded webpage to make sure they still work. Make sure links on other webpages bring up the new webpage and not an error message. Typos happen to the best of us, so always look for them and test your links.

Using RSS Feeds

Keeping your website content fresh is easy when you use RSS Feeds to gather new content every time some one visits your website. This gives the potential to have new content every time a visitor returns to your website. This is called dynamic content, because it is always changing. Like anything else, there is always something that can go wrong. The website that you are getting the feed from may close down or change their RSS Feed link information. You will want to check your website to make sure the RSS Feed information is still updating or showing at all.

Making RSS Feeds work on your website requires some scripts and codes on your webpages. It is sometimes easier to have someone else write the code for you or to create the website for you and then all you have to do is upload the files to your web host server.

There are over 30 complete website packages available for you to download to your computer and then upload to your web host server.
